Happy New Year! We had an amazing turn out for our New Years Eve Reveal Party, thank you to everyone who applied for the contest this year! Here are some things to consider about the people who applied for the contest and made it to the "finalist file"!
- They made 4 lengthy appointments to the club over about 4 weeks. An in depth interview with a boat load of paper work! Dietetic & Lifestyle Questionnaires, health history and then lots of questions! Next time in was a mini endurance as a full fitness assessment is performed, a complete picture of your fitness status. Then a group workout-a challenging workout with other applicants lead by team captains Jacqueline & Jason. Not a Group Exercise Class, not a Bootcamp Class, this is a workout lifting weights on the floor combined with cardio/balance and core challenges, oh, and running steps! Last appointment is a recap and the applicant receives the results of the assessment, what the stats mean and then we do "SMART" goal setting, specific goals with dates. Every applicant receive a personalized workout they can do at home to prep for a new year transformation workout program. It's jumpstart based on the results of their assessment, health history and what exercise equipment options they have available.
- To get to that finalist file and be voted on by the training team: your body fat % needs to 30 or greater, you can't have more than 3 significant health risk factors and if you have 3 we must have a physicians release. We never sacrifice health in the pursuit of weight loss!
- Schedules need to be compatible, can this person make it to the workouts? We permit 4 sick days, miss 5 and you're off the team and there is a financial fee.
As you can see, just making it to the finalist file means that a substantial investment has been made. In a way the launch sequence has begun! If you went through this process by were one of hundreds that didn't make it this year do not abandon your goals!

Been talking a lot with my new team mate Mandy Holmes! Shocked at how many times in any given conversation either of us says "me too!" We think sooo much alike! I'm almost self conscious about it - for fear of sounding like a follower. lol NO worries - when it comes down to it- I'm thinking none of us will be following the others so much as chasing them down. I'm sensing just enough of a collective competitive streak to make this experience a total blast! Very impressed with the group I have been able to meet so far! My prediction this is going to be a real competition down to the very end!

Contestant Selection Meeting

Just wrapped up the final trainer meeting to select that last of the season 2012 Contestants! It was a difficult decision, and the final vote between two female applicants for Jason's Team was quite a struggle! We have so many people in our community that want a healthier lifestyle. I've found that in the rush of trying to be wonderful parents the foundation has shifted. I've sat down with just over a thousand people this fall who wanted to be a part of our contest, and a running theme appeared with parents. Between homework, activities and sports, work and other duties we've lost track of the most elementary items of our day. The attention to our families diet has been trivialized and "conveniently reduced" to the fastest method we can reach.
This year I hope to provide some simple methods for parents to dish out good healthy meals that will sustain and inspire families. Dr. Dozie just joined our team and will certainly be our go to guide for ideas in this area.
Production of our program will be very different this year too. You'll find a great deal of dialogue that will give the viewers substance and content. Our audience will be able to follow along the workouts and get their own results! We'll share a bit more of the contestants views on what each workout experience is like and how the program is impacting their life away from the gym! How are they keeping up with their family, work and personal life?
If you live in the Greater Lafayette Community you'll discover that living a healthy life is not so overwhelming, not so complicated and not so expensive! But the transition can be sticky~messy and challenging!
